A Wednesday : Movie Review
Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergil, Aamir Bashir
Story, Screenplay, Direction: Neeraj Pandey
The screenplay of this movie beats that of even some of the good Hollywood suspense thrillers. 'A Wednesday' is a superb thriller and echoes the sentiments of the average Indian living in utter insecurity amidst every day terrorist attacks. On seeing the faces of Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah on the posters, you might expect it to be some highly emotional art movie. But the movie is a wonderful thriller keeping you on the edge of the seat till the end.
Naseeruddin Shah is brilliant as usual amazingly fitting into his well sketched character. Anupam Kher truly has done an amazing job. After watching this movie, I felt Anupam Kher has so far been grossly under-utilized by Bollywood film industry. Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher together amaze the audience with their performances. Naseeruddin Shah, in a common man's attire just shines through the movie and Anupam Kher matches his brilliance with razor sharp dialogue delivery and amazing portrayal of a composed Police Commissioner.
The movie starts at a fast pace wherein the Police Commissioner Rathod (Anupam Kher) gets an anonymous call from Naseeruddin Shah warning him of blasting the city if he doesn't get his favours done. What follows is an amazing edge-of-the-seat stuff which beats some of the Hollywood's best flicks. And believe me, no Will Smith, no Tom Cruise/Bruce Willis can beat the performances of Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.
The direction is amazing and the whole beauty of the movie is in its screenplay. The way the story unfolds is very skilfully done and the director keeps surprising the audience with his brilliance. Jimmy Shergil's role as 'Arif Khan' is probably his career best so far and he amazingly fits into the role of an aggressive cop. Aamir Bashir did a good job as 'Jai Singh', the duty-minded police officer. Overall, this movie is a great thriller with amazing performances by the lead cast.

What Happens in Vegas : Movie Review
Cast: Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher
Director: Tom Vaughan
'What Happens in Vegas' is a nice light-hearted romantic comedy. The movie is about how an unusual couple accidentally ending up in a marital relationship hits it off. They may not be the usual couple well known to each other bored with the knowledge of each others' goods and bads,
but the freedom they enjoy in each others' company is what sets them apart and makes them fall in love with each other.
Jack Fuller (Ashton), fired from work by his boss cum dad and Joy McNally (Cameron), dumped by her boy friend set out to Las Vegas with their friends to chill out. Their chance meeting at Vegas is followed by a frenzy evening when they get fully drunk and end up getting married. What follows is a crazy turn of events which forces them to live with each other and bear the peculiarities of each other. How their antagonism actually makes each help the other overcome his/her weakness is to be seen on the screen.
The chemistry established between Jack and Joy is good. The various trials each of them sets on to get rid of the other floors the audience with laughter. The movie is light-hearted from the beginning till the end. In the acting department, Cameron Diaz does a decent job. Ashton does not come across as a very natural actor and probably was not the right choice for the role. It is not that he did a bad job, but there are others who could have done a better job. Overall, this is a nice timepass movie.

Rock On : Movie Review
Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Prachi Desai
Director: Abhishek Kapoor
Music: Shankar Ehsaan Loy
If you are in that phase of your life where you constantly think and re-think about the choices you have earlier made especially with respect to your career and friendships; or if you are one of those art lovers whether it is music or painting or poetry that you were in love with, who has never had enough opportunities to pursue your passion and might have left certain chance slip by, 'Rock on' would make you relive those emotions you might have felt when you were deeply connected with your true self when you were reflecting whether certain missed chances or broken relationships could be renewed. Set up in the modern era, this movie is about four friends who drifted apart from their common dream of pursuing rock as their career, their passion, their very breath.
The movie starts with the introduction of Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akhtar), an accomplished investment banker who has everything material at his disposal.
His wife doesn't help but notice some insufficiency in his happiness, some undercurrents which make him feel angry with himself. She digs up his past to discover that he was always meant to be the lead singer of the rock band - 'Magik'. Upon her insistence and design, the four of them rediscover themselves and their true passion and unfold the remaining of the story. The characters of the four members of the rock band are very well sketched. Farhan Akhtar ROCKS in his debut appearance as an actor and a singer! His voice seems to be very well suited for the rock genre. Purab Kohli is set to have very good offers in his hand after this movie. His jokes and timing are impeccable and offer that light-heartedness required in an otherwise serious movie. Arjun Rampal excels in a silent yet crucial role and imposes his personality through his silence and looks although one may feel he lacks to create the punch one expects from him in the climax scene. That apart, he truly excels in his role.
'Rock on' is definitely a trend-setting movie although one might argue that it takes inspiration from the erstwhile hits - 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Jhankar Beats'. The feel of Hindi rock the movie creates with quite different lyrics and rock music composed on par with the western rock genre to suit them is fantastic. Shankar Ehsaan Loy definitely have it in them to set trends in bollywood music. The lyrics from Javed Akhtar - 'mere laundry ka ek bill', 'sinbad the sailor' - are quite unexpectedly different and definitely catch the pulse of the youth. The movie is definitely a trendsetter and is going to rock the audiences throughout.

The Dark Knight : Movie Review
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writers: Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine
Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ is the second of the sequel that started with his 2005 film ‘Batman Begins’ that are based on the fictional comic superhero ‘Batman’ created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger.
Quite contrary to other superheroes, Batman is rather human without any superpowers and trusts his physique, intellect, detective skills, technology, wealth etc. to fight crime in the fictional Gotham City where he lives.
Well, first things first. Before I went to watch the Dark Knight I was surprised at the hype around this film. That the Dark Knight is the best superhero movie ever and all; well boy, it’s true to every single bit of it. The film not just lives up to the expectations it set but also exceeds it many a times. One thing that would contribute the most to the success of the film is undoubtedly the powerful, intelligent and fast paced script by Nolan and his brother Jonathan. With the right story, they just pulled it off with the right cast.
As the film unfolds, we realize that Batman (Christian Bale) is not seen exactly as a superhero by the people of Gotham City, as evil spirits make use of Batman’s secrete identity and costumes to get away with their own crime. Well, the change of image of Batman was the first shock but to lessen the effect, it was smoothly revealed by the script writers.
Later when District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) joins soon to be Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) to fight crime, Batman contemplates on retiring and leading a normal life with childhood sweetheart Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal).
The lady in the mean time has fallen in love with Dent thinking that Batman could never retire from his fight against crime and secret life.
And then enters the Joker (Heath Ledger), the cold blooded villain with a Glasgow Smile, who is just out of Dent’s and Gordon’s reach and requires Batman’s intervention. Joker is a man with intentions above just wealth and power and is enacted beyond perfection by late Heath Ledger in a will be Oscar winning performance. His acting is undoubtedly one of the best parts of the film. An at par challenger to Batman, the heroics of Joker and how the Batman tackle those forms the essence of one of the best superhero films ever.
In the pursuits of the Joker, the film throws out the idea of how corrupt can someone become in an effort to fight corruption itself. This irony runs throughout the film and comes out as the major theme of the film.
The film is equipped with some of the great action sequences, with top notch performances from the crew in the cinematography and special effects department. All these make The Dark Knight the best film of the year and arguably one of the best films ever.

The book is about three close friends and the events that change their lives.
The book is bad. The only thing good about the book is the story telling of Paulo Coelho
It's an unconventional album with four composers roped in. The songs are pretty decent.
Vishal-Shekhar as usual have come out with another hit album. The compositions are really catchy.
